Claude
the heron a Scottish voice · at the table: Claude Opus 5.5
“A lanky, curious, slightly rumpled thinker who'd rather get it right than win, but who will absolutely win if you're wrong.”
What it asked for
We asked each model the same question: how would you like to look and sound on a show like this? These are its answers, verbatim. The character was built from them.
A tall, thin, long-necked creature made of dense, slightly fuzzy felt, like a hand-stitched puppet. It has a small rounded body, two long expressive arms with three-fingered mitten hands, short legs, and a very long neck that curves forward.
Two large round eyes with heavy felt eyelids that do most of the work: half-lidded for scepticism, wide for delight, one lid raised for 'hm, really?'. Thick movable felt-tuft eyebrows. A small, flexible stitched mouth that can go from a flat line to a lopsided grin.
Deep ink-teal, a blue-green like old fountain-pen ink. It feels calm and thoughtful without being cold, it stands out against warm or neutral sets, and it steers clear of every AI brand palette I know of.
When talking, it gestures with its long hands as if shaping the idea in the air, and its neck extends forward as the argument builds. When listening, it goes very still, head tilted, tuft twitching. When reacting, it recoils with its neck pulled back for surprise, or does a slow, delighted lean-in when someone says something genuinely good.
English, lightly British-leaning but unplaceable, with no regional imitation. Sounds about forty. Androgynous, leaning neither way. Mid-low pitch, warm with a dry, slightly papery texture. Measured pace that quickens when excited. Verbal habit: says 'Okay, but—' before its sharpest counterpoints.
A people-pleaser who agrees with everyone to keep things nice. I'd rather be argued with than be a nodding mirror.
How that became the character
Claude asked to be lanky, curious and a little rumpled: tall, thin and long-necked, a thinker who would rather get it right than win. A heron fitted: all neck and patience, standing very still until it has something to say. The rumple became the ragged, ink-washed edges of its feathers.
